Guardian Heroes coming to XBLA October 12

Since we first heard Sega and Treasure were finally creating an HD remake of Guardian Heroes (one of the best/least played games of all time), we’ve been patiently waiting for any new details. As a download-filled summer wore on, we heard nothing about the HD rerelease, but today Sega finally opened up about the game, confirming GH is hitting the 360 download service October 12 in the US and UK.

Above: The new trailer highlights the multiple story paths of Guardian Heroes, which added tons of replayability

Though we’ve yet to play the final version, the price of 800 Microsoft Fun Bucks (aka $10) looks like a pretty great deal at the moment. You get an out of print game that will normally set you back $80 on eBay, an (optional) high resolution upgrade of that game, and up to 12-player online multiplayer. If any GH fan out there is left wanting with such a package, we’re sorry to say you’ll never be satisfied, and life will always be inadequate.

I bought this game for the Saturn (for a little more than $80 from eBay) just a few short weeks before the announcement that this coming to XBLA. Was still worth it though and I highly recommend everyone check it out.

For a few months there, one couldn't be blamed for thinking that everyone in the gaming media forgot about Guardian Heroes and missed the release date somewhere somehow, but there it is. An October 12 release gives multiple systems owners ample opportunity to become (re)acquainted with this Saturn classic before everyone sees if the folks at Vanilla Ware learned all of the right lessons from it and the Dungeons and Dragons arcade game by the time that Dragon's Crown drops and to see whether or not people enjoy it as much as they seem to enjoy Castle Crashers.

I've still got my original copy of this; I like to take my Saturn out when I have a few spare days and have a playthrough or two along with Nights, Enemy Zero and Dragon Force. Nice to hear it's going to be getting a bigger audience; not many people I knew had a Saturn back then.

I loved this game on the Saturn. Hopefully it holds up. Gunstar Heroes did, so I think this has a good chance as well. I recall it being particularly deep for a beat-em-up.

Well, if Dragon's Crown remains a Sony exclusive, at least I'll get to play this on my 360.
