Games have caused an increase in rape, says actual, real psychiatrist

For years, Beverly Hills psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman was presumed to be a fictional character, but today she was identified as a real woman who actually works in Beverly Hills.

Just before being identified as a real person, Lieberman allegedly contributed her thoughts to a Fox News piece titled "Is Bulletstorm the Worst Video Game in the World?" In the article, which is amazingly also real, the actual, board certified psychiatrist is quoted as saying, "The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games."

Fox News did not cite any evidence to back up Lieberman's quoted claim that rape has increased, or that videogames have caused the alleged increase. There's no indication as to why the quote is even in the article.

Apparently, Dr. Lieberman has also written two books, 'Bad Boys: Why We Love Them, How to Live with Them and When to Leave Them' and 'Bad Girls: Why Men Love Them & How Good Girls Can Learn Their Secrets.' These books are real and can actually be purchased, and were actually written by a person named Dr. Lieberman.

According to Dr. Lieberman's real, very pink website, she's "the doctor who helps you stay sane in an insane world," and she has won three real Emmys. Also, she - not an actor playing a character - has allegedly appeared on CNN, The Today Show, BBC, and other outlets.

Bulletstorm releases on February 22. So far, authorities have not revealed a plan to counteract the rape outbreak which Fox's article seems to suggest may be just around the corner. We recommend you hide your kids, hide your wife.

Note: As Dr. Lieberman's name is misspelled "Carol" in the Fox News article, we have contacted the psychiatrist to verify, again, that she was not made up by Fox News, that the quote is accurate, and that she is not in the pockets of whistle manufacturers.

The thing that bothers me is that I can't think of a single game off the top of my head in which you rape someone. Sure, there's prostitution (GTA) interspecies (Mass Effect) whatever you call sex with a goddess (God of War) but never have I come across a sexual scene in games that was forced. I may be wrong though.

THIS JUST IN! the large increase in people being city planners result from many people playing Simcity. See FOX NEWS? I can make up random stuff that sounds like it makes sense as well

OH GOD. With this game this month, and that awful Dead Space 2 thingy already out, this will be the WORST YEAR FOR VIOLENCE EVER! Truly, we live in an age of immoral filth.

How could a game really make someone think, "oh lets rape someone"... its pure idiocy. Shows how little she knows about it all, especially as any game that involves sexual references usually make you have to work at woo'ing the character into a sexual encounter. Never have I saw rape shown in a game without it being heavily frowned upon in the game mechanics itself. For games to be inspiring rape then they would have to in some way glorify it, and since no game at all comes to mind at doing so then it just shows that if a rapist does come out and blame it on video games then it should just show how screwed up in the head he already is. (Although I thought committing an act such as rape would prove that anyway, but some people are idiots hey) In the end of the day people love controversy and as some forms of the media say "bad press is good press". For example, did anyone even know who she was untill she said this preposterous piece of blasphemy... I very highly doubt it.

Are you fucking kidding me? Once again another attack on video games with no proof, that idiots will use to blame video games for everything bad in the world instead of bothering to find a real cause.

OMG i checked out her website and it was hilarious! soap opera script writers consult with her when trying to make there characters realistic. so ya when u want to throw up when u hear ur sister watching general hospital, that's why. also she wrote a book to help people deal with terrorism! no not for people who's families have been effected by terrorism, just dealing with it. if u need help dealing with the fact that good people get hurt by bad people in this world then ur going to need more than a book to help you. but thats not the worst. She is so against violence in media that she stopped a NASA rocket from launching because it was going to tout a advertisement for a action movie that she didn't like!!! you might be thinking this is just another person giving gamers a bad name but actually this is good publicity for us! anyone with a brain who looks at her home page can see she is a moron! maybe they will stop and think that maybe the others are over reacting too.

Thought you guys weren't allowed to say/type "rape" on the site. I will cite that games have caused an increase in fucked up weather in the East Coast, Mid-West and Australia. Also, pretty sure games caused the earthquake in Haiti last year. Also, Gamesradar causes cancer. Herpes is spread by Steam and console gaming gives you lycanthropy. Angry Birds makes new terrorists and PS3 fanboys grow up to be Blackulas while Xbots grow up into man-eating sharks. Fact!
  • gopikmin - February 9, 2011 9:55 p.m.

maybe that psychiatrist thinks "rape" in chat during games is actual rape. If so, i believe we need to send her to urban dictionary so she may learn modern slang

I'm going to write an article linking dumbass sensationalist news casting to stupidity.
  • therawski - February 9, 2011 6:42 p.m.

It has been shown by research that psychiatrists have caused an increase in rape because of research and a study and facts and psychiatrists.
  • Crabhand - February 9, 2011 6:15 p.m.

I can barely contain my excitement, this feels like one of the most entertaining things to ever be said, ever. I can't wait for this to be brought up on TalkRadar.
  • BluesyFish - February 9, 2011 4:36 p.m.

this article makes me so mad, I have to go rape several things
  • oryandymackie - February 9, 2011 4:34 p.m.

By the way, I'm surprised nobody has posted 'CHALLENGE ACCEPTED', or the like.
  • avantguardian - February 9, 2011 4 p.m.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHH SHUT UP! LEAVE US ALONE!
  • Shake - February 9, 2011 3:24 p.m.

Pfff, I was raping long before I was playing violent video games.
  • EdDeRs1 - February 9, 2011 2:19 p.m.

what vidio games cause rapes? what about the US porn industry, so powerful that it stoped Hendrix from relising his Electric Ladyland album in the USA untill he change the cover (it has naked women on it, us in the UK got the real cover :D)
  • RandyChimp - February 9, 2011 1:22 p.m.

Pfft, whatever, I haven't raped anyone in months, I'm too busy playing games! Btw, just in case this turns into another ridiculous twitter/airport threat misunderstanding, I'd like to point out I've never raped anyone and never will, it's what we on the internet call a joke.

I love how this article has ninety-plus comments on it, while the FAP directly below it has, like, twenty.
