European PSN 'Welcome Back' package detailed

With PSN finally clambering back to its feet (slightly shakily, but it's getting there), Sony has announced the contents of its 'Welcome Back' package. Understanding how put out gamers have been with 24 days without access to PlayStation Store or online gaming, free games and more are being lavished upon each and every existing PlayStation Network user. Hooray! The content is slightly different to the US package, so let's see what us European gamers can expect when the Store is back online.

According to Sony, all existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store when the service resumes in the near future:

Two PS3 games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation*

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet PSP
ModNation PSP
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation*

*Note, for the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replaced with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games. Also for the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.

But there's more!

PSN users will also receive:

  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
  • For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
  • Sony is working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

You'll have to claim your free content within 30 days of the store going back online. There are a few more minor terms and conditions over at Sony's site, but that's the important stuff right there.

What do you reckon? Surprisingly generous, or simply not good enough? Let us know in the comments.

Not particularly useful if you have all of those games already...the only reason I originally signed up for Playstation Plus was to get R&C.

Are the games only as long as you have playstation plus. Anyway this is just bribrary and most of those games are free when you join PS plus anyway.

Think I'll go with LBP and Killzone myself :)

Is there a specific bunch of stuff for people in NZ or do we get this?
  • veryweirdguy - May 17, 2011 9:15 a.m.

The games are yours to keep forever, regardless of whether you keep your PS+ subscription. Some of these games were free with PS+ at some point I believe, but not all the time, so I think this is a generous move from Sony. Just want the store back up now!

    Wow, Germany sucks.
  • scraffy16 - May 17, 2011 9:41 a.m.

OK BUT IN THE US IT SAYS WE CANT GET INTO THE PSN STORE
  • ChrisMacDee - May 17, 2011 9:54 a.m.

So we can get 2 free ps3 games AND 2 free psp games? If so that's awesome.
  • Luffys97 - May 17, 2011 9:58 a.m.

I have LBP and Pursuit Force so I will download Killzone and Modnation. I like the package but I would like killzone have online multiplayer. But when is it coming back?

evancusick: PS+ games you can only keep as long as you have a subscription, so when we get 30 days on that we will get another (at least) free game, but that will disappear when the 30 days runs out. Also on PS+ you cant redeem old free games if you werent a member the month they were the free game (if that makes sense). These 2 games are yours forever, or at least thats how I read it. Any extra PS+ game will only last 30 days.

Grr.. I already have the best games from these lists. Whatever, cant really complain about free stuff.

I wouldn't call it overly generous but it's not bad. I'll have Infamous and R&C plus I'll have ModNation and Killzone on the PSP if we are allowed both. It seems like a pretty good welcome back but then I don't really play online so the outage hasn't been to bad for me (other that the fact that i am still waiting to get my free Mortal Kombat dlc!) And as my Playstation Plus sub was up soon it gives me a couple more months before i have to find the money to renew.Bonus!.
  • LittleSamson - May 17, 2011 10:43 a.m.

Only games I don't have are LittleBigPlanet and Infamous, both of witch I used to own. So that sucks...
  • Squander - May 17, 2011 10:49 a.m.

my goodness the German package sucks... hope it won't affect Austria :(
  • philipshaw - May 17, 2011 11:04 a.m.

Sounds great, especially because the games on the list that I'm going to get I was going to buy at one point
  • ithurtstopoop - May 17, 2011 11:06 a.m.

Sounds pretty generous for Sony as long as I don't have to give them my credit card no to receive the free month on PS+
  • TheElephantManchurianCandidate - May 17, 2011 11:16 a.m.

Looks like a poor selection to me. I didn't like infamous, LBP1 is old news, Dead Nation looked boring as hell and I can't get into the R&C or Wipeout games. It's times like these I hate having a PS3 it sucks for gaming but at least it plays Blu Rays.
