Dead Rising 2: Case Zero breaks Xbox LIVE sales records

Zombiefied prologue to Dead Rising 2 most downloaded game in the history of Xbox LIVE during first week

Words: on September 9, 2010

Have you already downloaded a copy of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero? Join the club. According to Capcom, the standalone prologue for Dead Rising 2 sold more copies during its first week than any other DLC in the history of Xbox LIVE.

We contacted Capcom to find out exactly how many downloads they were talking about. Unfortunately, due to an agreement with Microsoft, they are not allowed to publicly disclose the exact number of copies of games sold. However, we can get a rough idea of how many people purchased a downloadable copy of the Dead Rising 2 prologue by looking at the number of users listed on the game’s leaderboards.

Above: If you are one of the many Case Zero purchasers out there, tell us what you thought of the game. You can find out what we had to say about the DLC prologue in our recent review

According to GamerBytes, the Case Zero leaderboards showed 328,290 players on it as of September 7, which was less than seven days after the game officially launched. If Microsoft collects 30% of the profits from sales for the tile, GamerBytes estimates that Capcom could have made over $1 million during the game’s first week.

sed598, Jed the Mechanic was useless and idiotic as ur comment. ampatent, i read ur blog, thought it was great u enjoyed such a sorry game, for my taste it was more of the same, nothing improved, definitely not the intense thriller. i prefer like my zombies scary, not goofy

Well worth the five bucks. Loved the original tho so i may be a bit biased. Just hope the driving mechanics get tweaked a bit since it will likely be required more to advancing the story. The last part of case zero didn't feature very tight controls.

It's killin' zombies, everyone loves that! Not too surprising, though games like Limbo, Braid and Shadow Complex are real standouts which should get more downloads

    @TruckThunders
It's not a demo. It's a prologue and it won't find it's way into the retail copy of the game.

There's two real reasons to assume DR: Case 0 did so well and is due to $5 price point and the fact that it's a game that probably will sell over 100,000 in the first month because it is Dead Rising. So it doesn't matter if you don't have an interest in it. For that did, a $5 sample of what I really consider to be pre-DLC, it's worth the purchase and ultimately a better alternative to deciding whether or not they want to plan on buying the full game or pass. As it stands, there's a tone of demo's that don't actually present the game well enough to do them justice.

Yes i bought the DLC but personally i bought for one reason, to see whtere i was going to get the full game or not, and after playing the Dlc i can say that iam not getting DR2,i would have to say to capcom that the game has potential, but they need to make it accessible to the player.

I can't believe people actually paid for this demo. But then again, when almost every new XBLA title is $10 or $15, a $5 title is an easy buy to some people. I have yet to finish the first game, so I have no interest in this demo or the sequel.

@dionnysus You are apparently not a gamer.

This arcade game was well worth the $5 it cost. Absolutely amazing and it made me a definite buyer of Dead Rising 2.

I made a little blog post about it too...

^I think it was Otis the Janitor haha
And I played the first one, but I only had the skill to mess around with the weapons and kill zombies. If I actually tried to save anyone I failed miserably and the psychos killed me all the time. I was miserably bad at it, so I moved onto other things. BUT now I wish I had stuck with it cause I keep wanting to go play through it.

And I don't really know why I was so bad at it, it's not like I just suck at games in general [I beat PROTOTYPE on hard in like 3 sittings.]

My Dad bought the first Dead Rising for a gift, popped it in and hated. Damn you Curtis or whatever that Janitor's name was

what a pile of crap. Capcom should had improved on the formula, not shell out a lackluster effort. At least i know NOT to buy/rent DR2

    Great DLC!

It felt a little laggy at times unless it was just how slow Chuck moved... other than that, it was awesomely fun.

Just wish they had some more weapon combos! I want to make the gloves with knives already!
