Crysis 3 on Wii U? Fat chance, says Crytek

Rasmus Hoejengaard, creative development director at Crytek, says there's “not a fat chance” of the game appearing on Wii U alongside more established platforms. Speaking to Destructoid, Hoejengaard dismissed the idea of Crytek's upcoming FPS running on Nintendo's upcoming console: “I don't think it's possible. Right now the launch platforms are PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I don't think it's on the cards to do a Wii U version.”

Hoejengaard allowed that this third installment of the famously tech-intensive series will utilize more economical means of pushing the hardware. “I would say that our game is less reliant on technical capabilities this time around because of the setting,” he explains: “You could remove a lot of the fancy render tech and still it'd look great... we want to ensure that the experience of playing the game is not going to differ from platform to platform, only the fidelity of the visuals.”

It's not clear, then, whether Crytek's reluctance stems from the Wii U's untested hardware or the console's unique controls – or something more political – but if we know you, you'll have a few ideas of your own, which you're actively encouraged to jot down in the space directly below these very words. Here's the Crysis 3 announcent trailer.

Poor Wii U. Everybody's bagging on you and you're not even on shelves yet.

This just harks back to the time when Nintendo had a spat with Rare/ Free Radical people over their games. It's just saying F**K YOU to the blokes who pissed on them. Fair play, but it's a shame they still hold such a grudge after all these years.

when somebody says "fat chance" doesn't that mean that there's no chance? so "no fat chance" that's a double negative, that must mean that there is a chance that it will in fact come out on the wiiu?? lol idk..

I, as a fellow idiom-pedant, had the exact same problem with this statement.
  • A9entOfChaos - April 25, 2012 7:14 a.m.

The Wii U is such a god awful name. Time to take a Wii Wii on U!
  • PhantomDave - April 25, 2012 6:13 a.m.

Only entered this article to see the comments from people who actually somehow thought it WAS going to come out on this system. Oh it is to laugh.... Between Nintendo and Peter Molyneux...I'm not sure who holds the record for promises failed to be kept.

I love how at E3 they had all those (possibly paid?) devs talking about how excited they were about making games for the Wii U, and now everyone is ripping it apart. Classic.
  • ThundaGawd - April 24, 2012 7:33 p.m.

The Wii U isn't even out yet, so certain developers obviously aren't going to spend tons of money formatting a version to run on experimental hardware, if they spread their resources too thin, they'll please the future owners of the Wii U, but the game might not be as polished as it should be on every other platform. I don't see why everyone's always overreacting when a Dev refuses to make a version for the Wii U. As long as it's not a blatantly dickheaded reason like the dumbass in charge of the new Bauldur's Gate who shat all over Nintendo, I'm perfectly fine with developers not planning on making versions for a console that isn't even out yet.

you sound like a nintendo fan boy, haha, you all sound the same "not yet out, not yet out" join us, the people on real consoles.. :D
  • ThundaGawd - April 27, 2012 2:09 a.m.

Ironic, seeing as I haven't touched a Nintendo console in nearly a year now XD I'm simply stating what I'm assuming is the most obvious reason for all this rage/anticipation towards the Wii U. Personally, I don't give a damn about the Wii U, I'll stick to playing games on my PC, I just don't get why the actual fanboys are continuously freaking the hell out whenever someone refuses to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of employees & testing & coding to create a version of the game they won't even be able to put on the market for the next few years. There are so many awesome games exclusives to different consoles, but these fanboys insist on shitting over everything else in anticipation for something that might not even turn out well.
  • Brutalicus - April 24, 2012 7:02 p.m.

    Heheheheh Crysis on Wii U
  • Redeater - April 24, 2012 6:46 p.m.

I think a lot of people are missing the point about WiiU. Even if rumors are anywhere close to true about it being as powerful or even a bit more powerful as PS3 it will not be getting many cross platform games after a year or so. Does anyone really think that developers are going to piss away money creating 3 versions of the same game? I'm guessing no and when the new PS3 and Xbox come out we will just end up seeing a lot of "chop till you drop" type games. Which really isn't a problem when you think about. Nintendo is strong enough with first party titles not to have to worry about shitty ports.
  • tiben36 - April 24, 2012 7:14 p.m.

    >new ps3 >ps3 2 hurr durr
  • shawksta - April 24, 2012 7:34 p.m.

That, or that Crytek is too lazy to want to innovate with the Wii U to built more options. Atleast Arkham City is, so far, been said to innovate to make the investigation scenes deeper, or whatever.
  • Rub3z - April 24, 2012 6:29 p.m.

Yeah, this makes sense what with all the flip-flopping rumors as to what the U will be capable of. "Six times as powerful as 360!" "Twice as much as PS3!" "Half as powerful as PS3!" "Sort of comparable to a 360!" And some other stuff. I think it's all up in the air until it hits shelves or more official info is released, likely at this years' E3.
  • Fuzunga - April 24, 2012 6:02 p.m.

I mean, if they've been developing the version for other consoles for a while and making a Wii U version menas it'll be out, like, a year later and nobody will buy it then that makes sense. But he doesn't have to be a dick about it.
  • BackwaterRifle - April 24, 2012 5:54 p.m.

I know what game I won't be buying.
  • tiben36 - April 24, 2012 6:46 p.m.

the wii u? haha wii u's gonna tank
  • KnowYourPokemon - April 24, 2012 7:15 p.m.

Mhm just like the Wii, DS, and 3DS... Oh wait.
  • FOZ - April 24, 2012 5:34 p.m.

The title of the article makes it sound harsher than the guy was actually saying. Guessing from his name and that he's working at CryTek, English isn't his native language, so he was just saying it isn't likely. And since barely anybody knows anything about the Wii U hardware, that makes sense.
