Cannes 2009: The Italian Job will be remade in India

An Indian film company is bankrolling a remake of classic Brit-flick The Italian Job, we learnt today in Cannes.

Studio 18 have bought the rights, and have hired siblings Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla to direct.

The brothers are famed for their action flicks, so expect more than bloody doors to be blown off when the remake hits Indian screens.

A high profile official remake like this is good news for Indian cinema, especially in the wake of several previous awkward 'homages' to Hollywood flicks.
