Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has a good shot at beating day one sales of Modern Warfare 3 in the U.S. and U.K. The near-future shooter already broke pre-order records set last year by Modern Warfare 3, Businessweek reports.
"Black Ops 2 is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” GameStop president Tony Bartel said yesterday. The gaming retailer alone reported more than 1 million units sold worldwide in its midnight launch period.
Piper Jaffray Cos. analyst Michael Olson estimated the latest in the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise raked in 6.5 to 7.2 million day-one sales in the U.S. and U.K. That would put it on level with or up to 10 percent greater than Modern Warfare 3's day-one numbers.
It remains to be seen whether Black Ops 2 will surpass the original Black Ops, which remained the best-selling entry in the series as of August despite a weaker start, according to GamaSutra.
