Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 set to beat Modern Warfare 3 day-one sales

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has a good shot at beating day one sales of Modern Warfare 3 in the U.S. and U.K. The near-future shooter already broke pre-order records set last year by Modern Warfare 3, Businessweek reports.

"Black Ops 2 is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” GameStop president Tony Bartel said yesterday. The gaming retailer alone reported more than 1 million units sold worldwide in its midnight launch period.

Piper Jaffray Cos. analyst Michael Olson estimated the latest in the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise raked in 6.5 to 7.2 million day-one sales in the U.S. and U.K. That would put it on level with or up to 10 percent greater than Modern Warfare 3's day-one numbers.

It remains to be seen whether Black Ops 2 will surpass the original Black Ops, which remained the best-selling entry in the series as of August despite a weaker start, according to GamaSutra.

That is nothing. I hear next years Call of Duty minute one sales are going to beat Black Ops 2 minute one sales. Don't you just love the meaningless numbers and comparisons that PR stooges brag about (Halo is even worse than COD for this abhorrent practice).

I sure hope it beats it, because I despised MW3 and all it was, save for adding a FEW little quirks that Black Ops II picked up on. Great game, I'm seriously enjoying it with my friends moreso than any Call of Duty to date, disregarding MW1.

I said it before, but sales figures for any self respecting military shooter should align to numbers like 9, 44, 5.56, 7.62 and such.

I feel bad that I havent gotten this one yet, I ended up blowing my gaming funds on Borderlands 2 and the season pass along with a buttload of microsoft points. I'll probably get it soon though. Annnnd cue the Battlefield and Halo fans trying to compensate...

Hi! I'm a Battlefield and Halo fan. I totally understand why would you prefer Call of Duty, though! I hope you're able to pick it up soon!
