Batman: Arkham City's Riddler trailer shows he isn't playing games anymore

Normally I’m the type of player that rarely completes all the side missions in a game; just finishing the main campaign is enough for me. But that wasn’t the case in Batman: Arkham Asylum, as the hunt to unlock all the Riddler’s mysteries was so engrossing that it kept me playing B:AA long after the Joker was defeated. Now Arkham City is just a few months away and it looks like for the sequel Edward Nigma has really stepped up his game. Take a look at the hot-off-the-presses trailer:

This vision of the Riddler matches with what we first saw during GDC and heard in an interview tape, as the villain you once underestimated has placed people in Saw-like death traps that Bats must locate and disarm. Of course the trailer is also filled with what seem to be coded messages for viewers to figure out just as Batman does in-game. Are you smart enough to decode them?  And if you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?

This seems like it could be its own game, or movie. Wait? What? It's only part of Arkham City you say? No freaking way? (unintentional rhyme, but I like it)

I've been thinking about this, and if the Riddlers main motive is to prove his intellectual superiority to Batman, the surely the best way to beat his is just to not solve the puzzles in the first game, fine you win Riddler, you are better than me, off you trot now to do sudoku or something, yeah you heard me gamers DO NOT attempt the Riddlers Challenge, do not rise to the occasion or you are putting all these poor people in danger, let him win!

Im ashamed to admit ive only just started playing Arkham Asylum, but what a game it is, and the knowledge that an even more incredible title is only months away is making me so happy.

I think I'm in love. And I hope to God the riddles are more difficult than they were in Arkham Asylum, I found a lot of them too easy. I've never been a massive DC fan, but I got almost all of the character riddles with little to no effort. The only thing that really annoyed me were those God damn Joker Teeth.

THERE's the borderline personality disorder Riddler we've all come to know and love. How's it been, Eddie? Long time no see.
  • inkyspot - July 11, 2011 5:50 p.m.
