Batman: Arkham City getting Batcave DLC in December

Upcoming challenge map pack to feature pre-order content and Batman's underground lair

Words: on November 28, 2011

Rocksteady is suiting up to release another batch of challenge maps for Batman: Arkham City which will see players WHAM!, ZOK!, and KAPOW! against crime in two villainous locales and one very secret vigilante hideout.

Confirmed for arrival on December 20, the DLC pack will include two challenge maps that were originally handed out as pre-order bonuses: the Iceberg Lounge map, wherein players brawl inside Penguin's swanky establishment; and Joker's Carnival, both of which follow the standard mode that challenges Batmen and Batwomen to rack up the biggest score possible by surviving hordes of enemies and building up a combat gauge for extra perks. In addition to previously released content, the pack will also contain a new Batcave challenge map, the complete details of which have yet to be released.

Judging by this and the recent Robin and Nightwing packs, Rocksteady appears to be focusing its DLC efforts on challenge maps, rather than actual game expansions. Not to say the new arenas and modes aren't interesting, just that a new side mission, story expansion, or any new reason at all to stalk Arkham City's streets would also be welcome.

Yeah, some new side quests would be really awesome.
I like new predator maps but I get bored of the combat maps before I'm even done with them.
The predator maps make me feel like Batman and play more like a puzzle so I find them more engaging.

    I'm getting sick of these.
I wanted to get all of the achievements in this game, but I just can't bring myself to spend my money on flavored character skins when there are so many games I've had to miss this year.

Just map packs? I might skip, Robin and Nightwing were cool but disapointed that none gets story missions and their quiteness, atleast for Robin since he talked in batman's main story

I agree I'd rather see Robin get some story missions rather than just challenge maps. Both Robin and Nightwing are fully fleshed out characters with there own moves, gadgets, and abilities. So why should they be confined to challenge maps? Or maybe just give them a couple of side missions in the main game, anything so there not a waste.

I'm pretty indifferent toward the challenge maps...just more of the same. I agree with you guys...a nice expansion to the main game would be a must-buy!

Ugh. I actually really like the challenge map modes in Arkham City, but I want to see them do something more substantial.
