A good sequel to a good game is always exciting. We all know this. Gears of War 2, Halo 3, please stand up and be appreciated. But then there are sequels to good games which iterate and improve on what's gone before that they instantly make their originators look like a trailer for the main event. Uncharted 2, Half-Life 2, Resident Evil 4, this is your time to take a bow. And if you ask me, this first real gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham City drops very strong hints that the follow up to Arkham Asylum could well hit that latter category.
As fully paid-up bat-geeks, myself and Nathan are currently vibrating with excitement. You will too.
Sweet. Baby. Jeezee. Seriously. "Agog" would be the word. The scale and sweeping, decayed beauty of Gotham on show here already makes this feel like one of the definitive depictions of the city for me, in any medium. And Batman himself looks off the chart this time. Those new flying mechanics should be amazing when harnessed to flit around what look like much bigger, more varied, open-air city block environments.
That ground pound entrance and helicopter hijack? Textbook Batman. And interestingly, it looks like he's using that chopper to stealthily move to higher ground, rather than simply 'jacking it in order to take the pilot down. I'm already boggling at the possibilities of this new expanded Arkham experience.
What do you think? Reckon Arkham City really can join that pantheon of legendary uber-sequels I mentioned at the top? And what do you reckon to the trailer soundtrack? Cool implimentation of unusual music choice, or horrible misfire?
