Autographed copy of Final Fantasy Tactics being auctioned to support Japan disaster relief

Finding a copy of the original PlayStation version of Final Fantasy Tactics is a rare feat on its own, but someone could make a total killing if they had a mint condition copy of the game autographed by members of the development team. Andrew Vestal, though, has a grander vision than that.

The copy in question is autographed by Hideo Minaba, art director, and Akihiko Yoshida, character designer. Yoshida also drew a quick sketch of Ramza, the title's lead character, next to his name.

Vestal has posted the rare game on Ebay as part of an awesome initiative on the site called 'Play For Japan.' It encourages gamers and industry insiders alike to put up items on the auction site, and donate the proceeds to charities focused on the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami.

"The rarity of this item would be hard to overstate - Yoshida and Minaba rarely appear at trade events or sign autographs. This item would truly be the crown jewel of any Final Fantasy Tactics fan's collection," wrote Vestal in his Ebay description.

Specifically, the proceeds will go to Global Giving, a philanthropic group focused on providing emergency services to people all over the world afflicted by disaster.

It is labeled an official "eBay Giving" auction, which means bidders can be assured that the winnings will go to the charity listed - the seller never receives any funds.

A recent auction of a DS signed by Nintendo all-stars - also advertised as a charity listing for Japan - sold for over $4,000. As of Tuesday night, the Tactics auction had reached about $400.

I totally still have this game :D I still love it to death. One of my favorite games of all time - that's for sure

Up to $600 now and still 3 plus days to go. I watched the auction for the DS conclude. Once it hit $3,600 it was only between 2 individuals and one had put in a high bid of $4,000 several hours before and was not there for the conclusion. In the 3 minutes before the end, bidder number 2 marched it all the way to $4,000. Silly bidder number one used a round $4,000 as his max bid so when number 2 bid $4,000 and he was still losing but saw the bid was only still $4,000 he could see he was just a few dollars away from winning. However, there was less than 10 seconds on the clock when he took it to $4,050 to win. I thought for a moment he had not realised and had given up. Great to see so much money being raised for a worthy cause.

This is pretty amazing, but how is the auction only up to $400??? If Chrono Trigger can go for $600 with the manual, an autographed copy in box (NON-GREATEST HITS ED.) should be going for at least twice that. Maybe I'm impatient.

Fantastic game. Even though I had no idea who the AD and CD were I would be proud to have something like this. Who-ever had enough scratch to get it better enjoy it, somehow.

"Finding a copy of the original PlayStation version of Final Fantasy Tactics is a rare feat on its own" OK, I know that was a hyperbole, but thats a bit overboard. Hard to find? On Ebay,2hile I tried to narrow my search down as much as possible (removing things like GBA, PSP, Advance, guides, etc), it still came up with hundreds of results.
