Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel announced by EA

Army of Two isn't allowed to have numbered sequels, because they'd sound pretty stupid (e.g. Army of Two 3), so we'll just have to accept that the newly announced Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, is actually Army of Two 3.

Th game will be developed by the same studio that developed the first two games, EA Montreal, however they have been renamed Visceral Montreal.

It's also going to be arriving quite a bit faster than we ever would have assumed. While it's not hitting in 2012, it will be launching in March 2013. EA has said that this is intended to be a reboot of the series, striking a grittier "more mature" tone. Which we assume means there will be less high-fiving over corpses.

"With meaningful, seamless co-op gameplay at its core and explosive new tag-team features, gamers will have to work together tactically and strategically as they push through a city dominated by one of Mexico’s deadliest drug cartels."

The game will follow a set of new characters named Alpha and Bravo as they presumably work to take down the cartel as an... Army of Two.

I'm pretty disappointed with this, to be fair, I was excited to see the return of the pair. Although, I'm gonna break from the pack and say I really enjoyed the second one, but thought the first one was a bit crap.

But I only played Army of Two to high five my friend after we killed a ton of dudes! That's the entire point of the game!

I loved the first one too, my girlfriend and I played through it a few times. The second was too dark in my opinion and the moral choices were pointless. Worst of all though was the enforced vertical split screen, I will never understand that design decision.

Poor Salem and Rios. They were so great in the first game, then 40th Day ruined them, and now EA has done away with them. On another note: Anybody else think this sounds a little more than vaguely inspired by the plot of Savages?

first game was awesome, loved having my golden RPG, second one was dissapointing, the pseudo moral choices annoyed me (so i shot a white tiger, big whoop, its not like i made them extinct....oh, wait)

Oh yay, more gritty and realistic games. What exactly was wrong with the original concept? Sure 40th Day was a bit.. bleh but the characters and overall gameplay were solid enough.
