All Vita games will be available through the PlayStation Store

The PSP Go was an experiment (to say the least) to see if a handheld could succeed without physical games. We now know it can't. Maybe the world just wasn't ready, but Sony isn't willing to abandon its digital distribution ideal for a handheld system just yet.

The PS Vita will have physical media, but every game will also be downloadable from the PlayStation Store. Sony Entertainment Europe’s new president and CEO Jim Ryan explained that the goal is for the digital and physical release dates to be the same, but he didn't talk about how the pricing system will work.

It's possible that retailers will demand a competitive pricing structure, and the digital versions will have artificially high prices, to avoid undercutting brick and mortar stores despite electronic distribution's lower overhead. That still leaves the possibility that prices could be different due to sales and lowering prices over time. Ideally, if digital and physical media become truly competitive for the PS Vita, they'll each drive each other's prices down. But we'll have to actually get a Vita before we can worry about that.

I thought they already confirmed this at E3. Either way it's good news all around. Hopefully they take full of advantage of the digital storefront, maybe even getting some good deals for PS+ members.

I can tell the future: PS Vita 2000 will be "downloadable games only"

Fuck yes. I would have bought a GO in a heartbeat if it would have just had that Kingdom Hearts one on there. I love the idea of just downloading my games. I, personally, will gladly pay the premium as long as there isn't like a $20 gap.

lets hope sony pays attention to others prices example you can get a real physical game of infamous 2 for 40 bucks on amazon and yet still the download on psn is still 59.99, another downside to download only at full price is no trade in.

But one thing they never mention or at least that I haven't heard of yet. Is will it still support the original UMD's or will that physical media be a different format for the Vita? Because honestly I would hate to know I lost my money on my other PSP games. And I know I can just buy the PSP-3000, but I would like to get the Vita.

I would never pay more for digital versions of games. It costs them less to sell digital copies so I would much less likely to download digital unless they are are cheaper than physical copies.

I only hope the Digital versions' prices get cut down the longer they stay, why would I want to pay $40 for a 3 year old, possibly non-memorable game? @DeathNetwork Vita isn't backwards compatible with Portable. Vita will use Cartridges like the (3)DS(i). Sony learned their lesson with the Un-universal Media Disc.

I hope it's better than the pricing structure for the PS3, Infamous 2 is £50 as a digital download, but only £40 as physical media. I was really annoyed at that price, really is a rip off.

I hate digital games. It takes the collecting aspect out of gaming.
