We remember the ZX Spectrum. It wasn't as good as this:

My first gaming platform. Spent entire Christmas holidays playing Elite on it back in the day. The memories! Oh, and that unforgettable loading sound: The excitement of it, the anticipation and the constant fear as in "will it load?" :)

Good times growing up playing Rainbow Islands, Gauntlet, Dizzy and of course, Jet Set Willy. Back in the days when games were pure gameplay and nothing else

Even Google is getting in on the ZX Spectrum love. For me however, it sadly (or not) came before my time. Although, I do remember clocking in a bunch of hours on my uncle's Amstrad. If that's relevant. To anything.

Wow. Nice article. I mean an entire TWO SENTENCES? TLDR if I've ever seen it.

I loved my spectrum but it came with no games so for the first few months I had to buy magazines and type out all the code by hand. Imagine if you still had to do that :) Also: worlds best loading screens!

The spectrum was possibly my first games console all I can remember is it taking ages to load the tapes and a ropey postman pat game haha

I wonder if Matt is taking a well-deserved rest after his exertions putting this article together...?

I had a C64 but most of my mates had the speccy (rubber keys). I wasn't envious of the brain burning red/yellow/green colour palette though they did seem to get better games. They also blew up a lot. Best memory is me and a pal successfully wiring up a ghettoblaster to run Manic Miner when his tape deck went. Call for you after neighbours!

I could swear that this is not a ZX pictured above but a C64

Oh... Silly me, I just read the caption, sorry.
