We may have seen Luke Skywalker get reunited with his lightsaber at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens but, as it turns out, it wasn’t the *exact* same one from the original trilogy. Thankfully, a kind-hearted collector has let Mark Hamill get to grips with his original lightsaber for the first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
In a clip from Mark Hamill’s show Pop Culture Quest (which you can see above), Hamill is presented with the authentic, honest-to-goodness, handle that he used as a prop throughout the Star Wars saga. And that’s not all: Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan also used the same prop in A New Hope. I’ll bet continuity fans everywhere are swooning.
It’s genuinely touching to see Hamill’s eyes light up as he glimpses the prop for the first time in several years, going on to explain just how lightsabers came to life through the power of movie magic (and a few speedy prop hands).
One thing’s for sure, Star Wars 8 will have to go some distance to match this lightsaber reunion…

I'm the Senior Entertainment Writer here at GamesRadar+, focusing on news, features, and interviews with some of the biggest names in film and TV. On-site, you'll find me marveling at Marvel and providing analysis and room temperature takes on the newest films, Star Wars and, of course, anime. Outside of GR, I love getting lost in a good 100-hour JRPG, Warzone, and kicking back on the (virtual) field with Football Manager. My work has also been featured in OPM, FourFourTwo, and Game Revolution.
