One of three new drama series from Syfy is a spaceship-based show from Deep Space Nine ’s Robert H Wolfe
When Stargate: Universe came to an end earlier this year, we were all mourning the fact that for the first time in 24 years – since the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation – there was no spaceship ship in production on US TV.
But the channel that was being accused of killing the genre – Syfy – has rectified the situation. Today, the channel announced three new drama series, and among them is an as-yet-untitled spaceship-based show from Robert Hewitt Wolfe, of Deep Space Nine and Andromeda fame (or infamy, depending on how you want to look at it).
The press release (posted in full on Coming Soon ) describes the show: “After decades of war, the newly-formed Unity Democracy orders a volatile mix of humans and trans-humans to lead the Starship Defender on an expedition in search of lost worlds requiring law and order.” Yep, that sounds like a space-based version of US foreign policy.
The other two shows are:
• Seeing Things (working title), about a cop who becomes a ghost after his violent death and the only person who can help close his last case is a socially awkward man who realises that the hallucinations he's had all his life may not be a figment of his imagination. Exec producers include David Slack ( Law & Order , Person Of Interest , Lie To Me ) and Scott Rosenberg ( Happy Town , the US Life On Mars ), while Slack and Gabrielle Stanton ( Haven , Castle , The Vampire Diaries , Moonlight ) are the main writers,
• Ghost Projekt : Based on the popular comic series, a female KGB agent and male American weapons inspector form an unlikely partnership when a deadly force is unwittingly unleashed from a Siberian research facility. Brett Matthews (who’s been an assistant to Joss Whedon on Angel , Buffy and Firefly , and has written for Supernatural ) is executive producer and writer.
