Based on the amount of trailers and TV spots for Suicide Squad highlighting the Clown Prince of Crime, it's understandable that most folks might think 'oh hey look, another movie where The Joker's the bad guy!' They're not wrong. He is a baddie, yes, but the MAIN villain? Nah, that's someone else. Early birds who've already seen the film have confirmed that the Joker's role is a small supporting one at best. According to Jared Leto, aka He Who Thinks Dead Rats and Used Butt Beads Are Great Gift Ideas, that wasn't always the case.

Out and about promoting the film, he told Telestar that his involvement was originally much bigger. "There are a lot of scenes that didn't make it to the final film. Hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows?" It's standard nowadays for movies to scale back footage in the postproduction process, usually for pacing purposes and to keep run times trimmed down.

Leto might get his wish on home video, however. Blu-ray and DVD is the place for filmmakers to release longer versions of movies, often reinserting additional scenes that were left on the cutting room floor during editing.

As we've come to learn, audiences seated for preview screenings of Suicide Squad were shown two different cuts of the film. It's entirely possible that Warner Bros. will roll out an alternate version at a later date much like Batman v Superman's R-rated Ultimate Edition, and that could be where the rest of Leto's performance surfaces.

Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
