Right up there with saying Bobby Kotick is the devil, one of the most thoroughly beaten dead horses in games journalism is the transgendered nature Poison from Final Fight. It’s such a giant cliché and one we try to avoid, as this fictional character’s debated gender would distract from information. Like now, when that supposed penis would steal focus from the news that the sexy final fighter joins Tekken’s Steve Fox and Yoshimitsu along with Street Fighter’s Dhalsim in today’s Comic-Con character reveals for Street Fighter X Tekken.
This news comes straight out of Comic-Con, which isn’t surprising as the game was first revealed during the San Diego convention last year. Poison has been a favorite of many fans despite rarely being playable, so we’re happy to see her transition into a more active in-game role. Meanwhile, Dhalsim is looking like his usual self as he burns up foes with Yoga Flame, Yoshimitsu is the comical robo- ninja we know him as, and we refuse to learn anything about Steve Fox, though we assume he’s a boxer.
Speaking of new characters, our man on the scene at the Comic-Con panel, Brett Elston, says he spotted cameos from Final Fight's Guy and Cody, while another editor said he eyed E Honda on the side of a truck, so these trailers might be full of hidden secrets. This Comic-Con news beefs up the already stellar cast for SFXT, and if the inclusion of Poison doesn’t win back all those angered Capcom fans, we don’t know what will.
