Spidey's classic jumpsuit is getting a major overhaul for Spider-Man: Homecoming. While previous depictions were essentially just full-body tights, the version in the wall-crawler's first solo film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have its own artificial intelligence just like Iron Man's Jarvis. I suppose that's what you get when your suit is crafted by Tony Stark.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Spider-Man: Homecoming co-producer Eric Carroll said that Stark has installed a "training wheels" protocol into the suit. Once that's turned off, our mild-mannered Peter Parker will have his own digital butler. "Probably most notably, it starts talking to him, and he goes, 'Oh, this is weird.' And he starts asking it stuff, but he’s not super slick or Tony Stark smart, who invented the OS and did all this. He’s a kid. So he’s like, 'Um, how do I get to where that thing is?' And it’s like, 'Um, I don’t know. Pretty much drive?'"
As for who's providing the voice, Carroll wouldn't say. Or rather, couldn't say. "We don’t know [who will be the voice] yet. Uncast, no. Well, sort of. But not official."
All this technology embedded into his suit may seem like a major departure for Parker, but it's actually very close to what he's currently wearing in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man. In that series, the suit has multiple types of webbing, infrared vision, holographic projection capabilities, and more. Still, it'll be interesting to see how people respond to this new Spidey.
