The first trailer for Emma Stone's The Help has landed online.

Adapted from Kathryn Stockett's novel, this 60s-set civil-rights dramedy tells the story of graduate Skeeter (Stone), who gets pretty riled up by the treatment the black maids are getting in her Mississippi community.

Skeeter decides to take a stand by writing an article from the perspective of 'the help' in order to expose the injustices and mistreatments that afflict them.

It's a case of southern accents all round, as Stone is joined by Bryce Dallas Howard, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek and Viola Davis.

It looks like it'll be a (relatively) light-hearted approach to such a heavy theme, with Stone further establishing herself as an extremely appealing leading lady.

As the source novel became a huge hit, this could have an ready-made fanbase when it hits multiplexes, or it could benefit from similarly good word-of-mouth.

Check out the trailer for yourself, right here:

This isn't the last opportunity you'll get to see Stone before she appears in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man though. She's also completed work on Crazy, Stupid, Love , Friends with Benefits and Movie 43 .

The Help will be released in the US in August, and it'll probably be seen in the UK within a couple of months of that.
