Dan Houser, vice-president of creativity for Rockstar Games, says the company “adores” cult 2006 title Bully and is waiting for the right time to begin developing a sequel. Houser says it's a matter of scheduling, telling Gamasutra that “we will see what we can do with Bully” after Bully developer Rockstar Vancouver has finished work on Max Payne 3.
“We didn't want to start doing the Bully sequel instantly,” explains Houser. “Contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel.” However, he says Bully and its next-gen reissue, the Scholarship Edition, were a property that “we adore and might come back to in the future.”
However, a third Max Payne was something the company had “been meaning to start for a while,” so Rockstar Vancouver was given the opportunity to develop the high-profile title before moving straight onto further Bully titles.
You've got a while longer to wait, then, before any concrete details on Bully 2 emerge. Until then, keep an eye on Max Payne 3: the future of the Bully series could ride on how Vancouver handles its turn on the high-profile series.
