The Power Rangers movie has added another popular character from the franchise to help its team of teenagers battle Elizabeth Banks' villainous Rita Repulsa. Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston announced via Twitter that he will be playing the Rangers' leader Zordon:

Casting Cranston as the team's mentor is a nice callback to the start of his career, as the actor himself references in his Tweet. Before he got his break on Malcolm In The Middle Cranston got steady work doing voiceover jobs that included voicing two of the villains on the original Power Rangers TV series. Making a good impression on set, he wound up being the inspiration for the Blue Ranger, Billy Cranston.

In the role of Zordon, a floating head who guides the Rangers, it looks like Cranston's going to be taking some shifts in the vocal booth again. Depending on how big the part - and how big the head - he might even get fitted for a motion capture suit. It's doubtful that he'll get spandexed up like the youngsters leading the movie - but then again, who could have expected Rita Repulsa to get such a drastic makeover?

Directed by Dean Israelite and starring Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks, the Power Rangers movie will be released in UK and US cinemas on January 13, 2017.
