A group of six, presumably unemployed, men have secured their spot to be the first in the country to buy Kinect. They lined up at the Toys R Us in Times Square, New York at 6:00 PM yesterday. Remember, this is for a motion-sensing camera peripheral...
Additionally, the first 3,000 people who nab a Kinect at the official event will receive a free year of Xbox Live Gold as well as copies of Kinect Sports and Kinect Joy Ride - over a $150 value, for buying the $150 Kinect.
We certainly didn't hear any stories of gamers waiting 30 hours to buy a PlayStation Move, so in terms of launch hype, Microsoft has done its job. The real question is if this momentum will continue beyond core Xbox 360 gamers, and if they'll feel they're effort was worth it after a week of Kinecting. We have a feeling these guys are having the more fun right now than they likely will playing Kinect Joy Ride, but we could be wrong.
We'll be at tonight's launch event in Times Square and will have plenty of pictures of the entire spectacle tomorrow.
