Up-and-coming starlet Odette Yustman, currently appearing in Operation Endgame , has just wrapped on spy thriller The Double , opposite Topher Grace and Richard Gere.
How was it filming action comedy Operation Endgame ?
Article continues belowInteresting... It was quite interesting. I read the script and I really liked it. I thought it was a very intelligent dark, dry, witty comedy.
But it was interesting to shoot you know, because it really did have a fine line and sometimes I think that line was blurred with too much of the dark or too much of the comedy.
To be honest I haven't seen the movie yet. I have a very hard time watching myself on TV or on film, but it was an interesting process.
Do you see comedy as something you'd like to do more of?
It’s the biggest challenge that I've ever done, comedy... it's very difficult.
It's all about timing and about finding the right thing for you. I feel like I'm still paving my way and finding out what works for me.
I really do enjoy it and it's so fulfilling if you go home one day and you feel like you did some good work and you nailed some scenes and you hit that timing.
It's one of the best feelings and it's also the worst feeling when you know you just simply didn't.
There's a lot of work to be put in but you know, I'm being fearless and I'm conquering all of my fears by doing these things.
Comedy really has always been a fear of mine, but now I just say “Fuck it! I'm going to do it!” and I give it my best. It's working out so far.
You've just finished filming The Double ? How was that?
I get to see some of the movie this next coming week which is exciting as I haven't seen anything.
It's great it's a spy thriller, it's unlike any role I've ever played. It's a domestic role, I play a wife, a mother of two children.
I was proud that they asked me to do it and that I was able to work with such great actors again.
So you know, little by little I'm making my way. I absolutely love Michael Brandt the director. I mean he's just gonna blow up!
You worked with Richard Gere and Martin Sheen on The Double - How was it working alongside such established names?
I know, I know! I had to pinch myself everyday!
Most of my scenes were with Richard Gere and Topher Grace.
Richard Gere is just a star, he really is a star! He's so generous to work with and he's really just exactly what you'd think he would be.
He's quite the charmer! It's difficult to look at him for more than two minutes. You just have to look away. Very handsome and so great to work with. He makes you better like most of these great actors do.
What's next for you?
I'm starting a new comedy for Fox. It's called Breaking In.
It's going to air April 6th in the states - after American Idol. So they're giving us a great time slot! We'll see what happens.
I'm sort of a pessimist when it comes to TV shows as nothing seems to stick and so many of them seem to get cancelled. But it's a great show and it's backed by Happy Madison, Adam Sandler's company and Sony and Fox.
We've got a good shot. I play this bad-ass, motorcycle-driving, leather-jacket-wearing, lock-picking girl named melody. It's great!
