After months of rumors, CBS and The CW have confirmed that The Flash and Supergirl will meet in an inter-network crossover when Grant Gustin's scarlet speedster makes his way to National City. The Flash is set to make his appearance in the March 28, 2016 episode of Supergirl.
From what we know so far, the crossover is expected to only occur in that manner - the Girl of Steel won't be flying over to Central City. It's believed that the reason for choosing Supergirl as their meeting ground is down to the show's logistics; in The Flash, Barry Allen is capable of crossing dimensions while Kara is not.
“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl,” executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, said in a statement. “We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out.
“And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen,” they add. “It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”
This announcement naturally opens up questions about DC's television universe. As The Flash is an Arrow spin-off, and they take place within the same world, might there be an opportunity somewhere down the line for an episode where all three unite?
