Diablo III is "done when it's done" - no release date given at BlizzCon

Gamers were (a little bit) shocked when Diablo III was officially delayed until 2012, missing its release date and giving the holiday season to BioWare for The Old Republic. It was expected, however, that a solid date would be given in the near future, especially with BlizzCon right around the corner.

Well, Blizzard is just full of surprises.

During the opening ceremony, Chris Metzen, Vice President of Creative Development at Blizzard, actually didn't give a date, instead saying that they were in the "home stretch" and that it would be "done when it's done." We feel like we've heard that before. Like, four years ago...

This is really strange. If the game almost made a 2011 release, it would make sense that a slight delay would knock the game to April at the latest. Honestly, we expected them to come out swinging even earlier than that, releasing the game in February or March and capitalizing on the fairly light early months of the year. The fact that they still don't have a date is certainly disconcerting, and we're hoping it doesn't mean bad things for their highly-anticipated RPG.

To hold fans over they released a new cinematic video, which we'll hopefully have for you in the near future, and the above boxart. We have a feeling that's not going to be enough to really make up for the lack of a release date, though, especially for those who have been waiting for years for Diablo III's release.
