Xur, Destiny’s weekend trader, champion pipe smoker, and electro-funk ambassador to the outer rim colonies – life was miserable out there ‘til he turned up with his record box – is back. This week, he’s in the Tower, over by the Crucible Quartermaster. Old Arcite is getting quietly annoyed that Xur’s newfound love of improv beat poetry is scaring off his customers, but he’s being really polite about it so far.
But what’s Xur selling this week? A bunch of rather good stuff, actually.
This week’s winners are Titans, Hunters, and anyone who likes machine guns. First up, the Twilight Garrison lets old Punchy McBubbleshield evade in mid-air at the tap of a button. Obviously that’s a great trick to have in the bag when manoeuvring through hectic firefights or faking out Crucible opponents. And Hunters get the Archylophage Symbiote, which only really has one notable perk (it adds an extra shot to the Golden Gun super, effectively increasing its damage output by 30%), but whose notable perk is really rather good (see previous parentheses).
Warlocks only get the Stag, which is a bit rubbish, beyond looking cool and extending your height to doorway-threatening levels. It just charges your super faster when the rest of your team are dead, and gives you a chance of spawning with an overshield. Really specific in its purpose then, and not even that powerful in the situation it’s designed for. Also, the very nature of its signature perk makes it next to useless outside of co-op play.
Everybody though, gets Super Good Advice. This is great. It’s not the most accurate machine gun, nor does it have the most impact, nor is it the most effective at extended range. But what it is though, is fast as a greased salmon. It also returns a high proportion of missed shots straight back to the mag – immediately negating a lot of its recoil – and even drops some of the bullets that hit back into your reserves. Pro-tip: If you ever find yourself going up against Vex Oracles again, they don’t count as enemies, meaning that hits don’t count as hits, meaning that you’ll barely lose any ammo at all in taking them down.
By God, Super Good Advice is a cheery gun. Very very cheery indeed.
