Mario gets a line of Hot Wheels themed after him, and trades go-karts for minivans

Mario Maker won't be the only way to travel back in time to the 1990s, as Nintendo has partnered with Hot Wheels to produce a run of six miniature vehicles inspired by Super Mario games. The set, part of Hot Wheels' Pop Culture series, is set to burn rubber in October.

Interestingly, despite his known love of karts - and indeed, one of the Hot Wheels features Super Mario Kart imagery - it seems that Shigeru Miyamoto's famous plumber is more of a "vans and buggies" type of guy. Unless we're talking about Dr. Mario, whose car looks not entirely dissimilar to a Cadillac Miller-Meteor, which served as consumer vehicle, ambulance and … hearse.

Well, this took a turn straight onto Morbid St, didn't it?
