Street Fighter 5’s latest addition is fortune teller Menat, who was first teased in the character story for Ed. Her fight style centers around a glowing crystal sphere that can be used for both offense and defense, and probably makes a stunning ornament on the mantelpiece too.
As you can see from the video, her magic ball of hurt can be sent out and called back at will, and used to attack, disrupt and defend, and her Nefertem critical art move is almost as killer as her haircut.
As for her backstory? Capcom says she’s an apprentice to an Italian fortune teller, so if her sphere-summoning combat reminds you of Street Fighter 4’s Rose, that’s intentional. Her ancient Egypt-inspired look even has a nod to Rose’s signature scarf, with a wing-like sash between her back and wrists. Both fighters use the soul power style, so this could be a very exciting development for any former Rose mains.
Justin Wong, a major name in the esports fighting community and currently signed with Echo Fox, has already given Menat his seal of approval.
Menat will arrive in the game on August 29. You can unlock her as part of the Season 2 Character Pass - which has already added familiar faces like Akuma and new ones like Kolin - for $29.99 / £24.99.
