We were pleased as punch to see Sega returning to Sonic CD after ignoring impassioned pleas for years about rereleasing it. Sega did a real 180 on the game this year, as the port is coming to virtually every service known to man: Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, PC, iOS, Android and even Windows Phone (sorry Wii owners). We just got hold of a new trailer with sexy new/old footage of the game, along with a strange claim that doesn’t really make much sense.
Sonic CD’s plot and most interesting gameplay addition to the series involves changing things in the timeline, so maybe Sega is doing similar chronological editing by saying Sonic CD is “where the Sonic 4 saga began.” Apparently Sonic 4 picks up where Sonic CD's ending leaves off, though we don’t really understand the logic of trying to sell players on the remade Sonic CD by bringing up the mostly disliked Sonic 4 Ep 1. At the very least though this seems to confirm that, for better or worse, Sega is far from done with Sonic 4.
