Skyfall has scored the best Bond debut ever at the US box office, after opening with $87.8m (plus $2.2m from its Thursday IMAX opening).
The total surpassed the US debuts of Craig’s two previous outings as 007 by a comfortable margin ( Quantum Of Solace opend with $67.5m), no doubt assisted by the wave of Bond 50 nostalgia, the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and the Olympics cameo.
Skyfall now sits on a very healthy worldwide total of $500m, meaning it’s not an impossible feat to best the current Bond box-office champ, with Casino Royale currently topping the podium with $599m.
James Bond’s 23rd adventure has already stormed the UK box office, and is currently the year’s highest-grossing film in that territory.
Elsewhere in the US box-office charts, Wreck-It Ralph and Flight managed to drop only 33 per cent and 39 per cent respectively, taking $33.1m and $15.1m to round out the top 3.
