Secrets of the Pokemasters

Chat it up

It's pretty typical game advice: "Make sure you talk to everyone you see!" Yes, we realize that Sinnoh's populace suffers from terminal blandness, and almost never has anything even remotely interesting to say. But if you speak to everyone you encounter, you'll find a surprising amount of folks who are willing to give you free stuff completely out of the blue - stuff like rare accessories, powerful pokeballs and healing items, even several potentially miss-able key items. You'll be willing to put up with yet another person telling you how totally awesome pokemon are for all that, right?

Trading spaces

Trading your fuzzy friends with other trainers is a huge part of Pokemon's gameplay. Pokemon that have been through at least one trade tend to experience faster EXP growth then their counterparts. Making things easier this time around is the Global Trading System, a Wi-Fi service which allows you to search for and request trades with trainers across the globe by pokemon level and species. (The only problem with GTS: wading through a bunch of requests from losers who think their level 35 Machoke is a fair trade for a level 100 Palkia.)

There are several pokes that can't be obtained in the wild in Diamond, and will need to be traded from Pearl - and vice versa. Some of the Diamond-exclusive pokes are Murkrow, Cranidos, and Stunky. Pearl-only pokes include Misdreavus, Shieldon, and Glameow.

Making trading even more lucrative is the lottery on the first floor of the Jubilife TV station. Once a day, you can enter a drawing for fabulous prizes based on the ID numbers of trainers you've interacted with. The more trainers you meet and trade with, the better your odds of winning cool stuff!

Hidden treasures

You'll receive the Item Finder for your Poketch when you reach Route 207. You might not think it to be very useful at first, but it's an extremely valuable service. There's a lot of stuff to be found in the grass, between rocks on the ground, or even just lying on the floor that you can't see normally. Some of these items are just mushrooms and gemstones that can be sold for cash, others are various curative goods, but there's also a great deal of valuables to be found - vitamins, Full Heals, equipable items, and evolution stones! Watch our movie below for a demo of the Item Finder in action.
