The Muppets sequel may not be welcoming back Jason Segel for another starring outing, but Kermit and co. may well have found a replacement in the form of Ricky Gervais.
Details of who Gervais might play remain undisclosed, although it's thought that he's wanted to play the leading human role, as opposed to a mere cameo.
Gervais had recorded a cameo role for the original movie, only for it to end up on the cutting room floor. And for anyone questioning whether his brand of censor-baiting comedy would be a good fit for the Muppets, he does have previous, as you can see below...
The project recently suffered a setback when Christoph Waltz dropped out of playing an Interpol Agent, although that role has now been recast for Modern Family star Ty Burrell.
D escribed as a European-set caper, the film will be directed by James Bobin from a script by Nicholas Stoller, and is expected to begin filming in the UK in January 2013.
