The CEO of Payday: The Heist developer Overkill Software, confirmed today what some fans had already suspected. The company is currently working on acollaborationwith Valve that will apparently be a "blend ofPaydayand Left 4 Dead."
We're not entirely sure what that means, but we're immensely excited to learn more. Payday was a great concept with some high quality execution,
"As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into Payday The Heist, which has led to various rumors," wrote Ulf Andersson, CEO of Overkill Software, on the company website. "We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production."
We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”
The posting finishes with the note, "Keep and eye out for this infectious and developing story." The remark about visiting the hospital and the story being "infectious" seem to be strong hints that the project is zombie-related. Could we be looking at the first information about Left 4 Dead 3? At this point it seems plausible.
Either way, this could be a match made in heaven. Payday was a splendid co-op experience with great new ideas, but lacked much of the polish of a AAA shooter. Valve, on the other hand, makes great AAA shooters. The two could play to each other's strengths.
