Paramount rounded out a strong year at the global box-office with their Home Entertainment division grabbing three of the slots in the top 10 best selling Blu-ray titles of 2009, including the top two places.
With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen taking top spot and Star Trek coming in at number two, the studio was also boosted by the appearance of Watchmen at number eight, giving Paramount Home Entertainment more titles in the top 10 than any other studio.
The rest of the chart, compiled by The Official UK Charts Company Limited, is as follows;
1. Transformers - Revenge Of The Fallen
2. Star Trek
3. Quantum Of Solace
4. The Dark Knight
5. Terminator - Salvation
6. Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince
7. Inglourious Basterds
8. Watchmen
9. X-Men Origins - Wolverine
10. Planet Earth - The Complete Series
"Blu-ray accounted for 16% of total Transformers sales 22% of total Star Trek sales, a great result for the studio and a sign that the BD format continues to grow in the UK," said Lesley Henry, Marketing Director at Paramount.
"With major blockbuster titles like Iron Man 2 and major catalogue releases including Saving Private Ryan coming to the home entertainment market this year, 2010 is sure to be another significant year for Blu-ray and an exciting year for consumers as more continue to adopt the format.”
Although the war is yet to be won - with consumers still slow to convert to the high-def medium - Blu-ray came out in force in the battle of 2009, and with those figures, 2010 could be the year that BD finally succeeds DVD as the first chice for Home Entertainment.
