Michael Bay has been firefighting fan outrage since pretty much the day he announced his production company would be remaking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , with his initial suggestion that the turtles would be recast as aliens chief among the sticking points.
However, Bay has now given another update on the project, and suggests that the new film will be true to the source material after all…
"There was that quote saying that we’re making them aliens,” says Bay. “We're not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press.
“I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great."
There’s also time for a quick update on Transformers 4 , with Bay revealing that the Transformers will all be getting something of a makeover.
“There’s some really cool shit in it,” says Bay. “I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.”
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, with Bay on producer duties, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will open in the UK on 16 May 2014, with Transformers 4 following on 27 June 2014.
