Maria Full Of Grace gets in a State

Is Ethan Hawke working his way up to becoming a multi-hyphenate, film-crafting busy bee like Robert Rodriguez? Nah, he’ll probably just stay the same old Ethan Hawke. And maybe whip up a lasagne for the cast of his next film.

The Hottest State sees Hawke adapting and directing a script based on his own 1996 novel. The plot sees a 21-year-old actor named William (Mark Webber) who relocates from Texas to the shiny bright lights of New York to find himself. But what he actually ends up with is a big, steaming plate of heartbreak after a short-lived romance with singer/songwriter Sarah (Catalina Sandino Moreno).

Hawke is also featured in the cast, alongside Michelle Williams, Josh Zuckerman, Sonia Braga and Laura Linney. And warbly music lovers can celebrate – songs for the film will be provided by the likes of Willie Nelson and Norah Jones.

Hhhm… another film by Ethan Hawke? We’re all for second chances, but did you see Chelsea Walls? No? You do surprise us.
