Not only that, it's also a great opportunity to pick up a PS5 compatible gaming headset for a fraction of the usual price.

We'll be keeping track of the best PS5 Boxing Day deals in Australia on this page today, paying especially close attention to games, accessories and consoles, but if we see an outstanding price on TVs and monitors, we'll definitely include those too.

Savings on the PS5 DualSense controller are exceedingly rare nowadays, which is especially annoying since they're very prone to stick drift and trigger button problems. So: stock up! A quite discount on this 2024 PS5 gem, which will almost certainly go down in history as one of the platform's best exclusive. It's a big cheerful platformer with an astonishing amount of ideas. Widely considered a return to form, Battlefield 6 reviewed very well when it launched last month. Now, just weeks later, many major retailers are offering a huge discount on the RRP of AU$109.95. Arguably this year's greatest RPG, it's been as cheap as AU$59 previously, but I'd argue this is still a good deal at this time of year. Our review bears that out: "an outstanding visionary debut from Sandfall Interactive", Alan Wen wrote. Definitely a good one to have for the summer holidays.

This is the first substantial discount on Kojima's 2025 sci-fi epic. PS5 games are discounted through the year, but major sales like Boxing Day means they're cheaper than usual. So if you've held off expanding your library all year, do so now and you get the summer holidays to enjoy your new purchases. Heck, one of your new year resolutions might even be to play a specific title on the PS5 console you might have found under the tree. So what are you waiting for?

The best kart racer of 2025 is on sale, and no, we don't mean Mario Kart World

If you're like me and count yourself among the geniuses sickos who think Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed is the best kart racer ever, then you probably already own Sonic Racing Crossworlds. Which means you probably also know that it's better than Mario Kart World. That's just my opinion, but... it's the correct one.

In all seriousness though, if you don't like World's open world trappings and want a racer where power-ups are a little less important, you'll probably prefer Crossworlds. It's super fast, super slick, and it looks absolutely gorgeous on PS5.

In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Sonic Racing Crossworlds is better than Mario Kart World for several reasons. It doesn't have any of the open world padding. It's faster. It looks better. It has Ichiban from Like A Dragon in it. It's perfect for a summer holidays splitscreen fest.

Anyway: JB Hi-Fi is currently selling it for AU$69 for PS5, which is a big improvement on its AU$99.95 RRP.

Our racing expert Justin Towell gave Crossworlds four stars in his review. "Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a slick, ambitious racer with loads of tracks, primed and ready for future, licensed crossovers," he wrote. "At first too slow and then suddenly extremely fast, the racing lacks finesse, but it gets better as you play. A strong offering that's compulsively playable, but a bit grindy in single-player and not quite S-tier on the track."

DualSense Edge finally hits the edge of affordability

DualSense Edge review image showing the inside of the case with the various attachments

(Image credit: Future / Duncan Robertson)

The DualSense Edge is crazy expensive at its AU$339.95 RRP, especially when you consider the features it doesn't have, including drift-free Hall Effect analog sticks (Sony, please). But there's no denying it's an impressive piece of kit, not least because it's a pro controller with full DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support.

While Hall Effect would be nice (if you ask me they're basically essential nowadays) you can replace the analog sticks on this gamepad. And it's neat to have rear paddle buttons on an official Sony controller.

The DualSense Edge is currently going for AU$249 on Amazon, which is 27% below its usual AU$339.95 RRP. I'm not going to twist your arm to buy one, but if you want one, now's a good time to bite.

PS5 consoles have never been cheaper

Two PS5 Slims standing vertically, one with a disc drive and one without.

For most of 2025 it's been pretty dry as far as PS5 console discounts are concerned. But starting from Black Friday, Sony's consoles have been cheaper than ever. A lot of the sales were meant to dry up in early December, but most retailers seem to have kept their PS5 discounts running all the way through until Boxing Day / End of Year sales.

Many Aussie retailers are currently offering great discounts on both the digital and disc models of the PS5 Slim alongside the PS5 Pro:

Which of these should a newcomer gravitate to? I'd recommend the disc edition of the PS5 Slim. The flexibility of being able to buy (and sell) physical copies of games is still important, even in 2025.

The best PS5 headset gets a Boxing Day cut

Image of the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless taken by author Rob Dwiar.

We've had the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless at the top of our list of the best PS5 headsets for a while now. It's an incredible headset, but it's also sadly AU$735 at RRP, which is almost the price of a PS5. I know I'm not spending that much on a headset.

JB Hi Fi's Boxing Day sale has the wireless headset down to AU$479, which is a nice discount on the RRP, and cheaper than its usual street price, which tends to hover around AU$500-AU$550. That is still obviously quite expensive for a headset, but if you happen to have the cash and the desire to fork out that much for audio, we strongly recommend it. In his five star review Rob Dwiar described it as "the new premium, gold-standard for wireless headsets".

While that's a good discount, it has been cheaper before—as cheap as AU$455.49—but it'll probably be a while before it drops to that price again.

Open world time sink

Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadows was a satisfying instalment in the longrunning series, but it seemed to be mostly forgotten on most end of year lists. But not ours! Or at least, not on our best open world games of 2025 list, where it ranked number four.

While Shadows is outranked by Ghost of Yotei (not just in this list, but on pretty much every list), it's also considerably cheaper: JB Hi-Fi is selling it for AU$59. If you're looking for something to while away the long summer evenings, it's (relatively) low on stress and big on drama.

Andrew Brown rewarded it four stars in our review: "Assassin's Creed Shadows thrives on boldness," he wrote. "Its dual protagonists improve on the series' stealth-driven roots and modern RPG leanings, though they're let down by a vague story that fails to make full use of either character."

Sticks drifting? Here's a DualSense discount, finally

Sony DualSense controller on wooden table

The DualSense controller doesn't get many discounts nowadays, which is why I'm surprised to see them going for AU$85. We saw that price during Black Friday as well, but the fact that Amazon is doing a second round of low DualSense prices suggests that the days of these things being unaffordable are nearly over.

The rarity of deals on the PS5's premium gamepad is a bit of an issue, because they're very prone to stick drift and trigger button wear (I've needed to upgrade mine annually). So AU$85 for a new DualSense on Amazon is well worth forking out for, even though they should definitely have a bit more longevity. That price is only available on certain colourways, so go forth and browse the options.

The DualSense Edge is also currently going for AU$249, which is a big improvement over its (frankly ridiculous) AU$339.95 RRP.

Boxing Day has officially landed! Early signs suggest the deals won't be as massive as they were during Black Friday, but then, it's early morning. Black Ops 7 is cheap, if you want it

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Black Ops 7 reviews were middling (including ours) but there is definitely a type of person out there who will buy the new Call of Duty game no matter what. If you fit that description, chances are you already have it. But if not, Amazon is currently offering this year's military shooter for AU$59, down from AU$109.95.

Call of Duty games usually take a few more months to be discounted this heavily. It probably has a lot to do with this one not being very exciting or good. Still, if you need a dumb "make gun go blam" FPS for the summer holidays you could get some joy here.

A severe 'n' scrappy apocalypse shooter that's well worth your time

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Stalker 2 is an admirably niche take on the first-person shooter. It's as much a post-apocalypse survival horror as it is an FPS, and while it proved divisive at launch, it's gradually easing into an early cult status. It's one of my favourite games of the decade so far.

It originally released as an Xbox console exclusive, before hitting PS5 in late November. So this discount is pretty substantial considering how new it is to PlayStation. Amazon is flogging it for AU$64, down from AU$89.95. It comes highly recommended by me, though it's worth reading our review if you're on the fence.

A rare discount on one of the best PS5 games yet

Astro Bot

Astro Bot is a deadset modern classic and one of the best PS5 games you can get. In our five star review, Matt Cabral compared it favourably to the Mario 3D platformers, which is not something reviewers do very often: "Astro Bot doesn't just deliver on the promise and potential displayed in PS5 pack-in demo Astro's Playroom, but soars above and beyond to serve up a near-perfect platformer to rival – and possibly surpass – the best of Super Mario's Mushroom Kingdom romps."

Possibly as a result of all the praise and resulting high sales, Astro Bot doesn't go on sale very often and is often sold out on Amazon. Never fear: JB Hi-Fi is currently offering it for AU$69, down from AU$99.

I reckon at that price you've got to have it, especially if you've got kids to play it with.

100+ hours of monster slayin' co-op for AU$29

Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 4 art of Gogmazios the black dragon

Monster Hunter Wilds was AU$109.95 when it launched back in early 2025, but now JB Hi-Fi is selling it for AU$29. I reckon that's a brilliant price for this more-ish cooperative action RPG about taking down ginormous creatures.

It's worth pointing out that while Monster Hunter Wilds received great reviews at launch, the community has become a bit miffed as the year has worn on. A lot of that has to do with enduring PC port woes (which is irrelevant here), but it's also because the difficulty is a little lower than what fans expected, and some updates have felt a little insubstantial.

But if you're new to the series that likely won't matter to do. At AU$29 a pop, you could feasibly buy this for a friend too, all the better to buddy up in game.

Sure, it's proven divisive, but if you're a fan of the series or have a crew who want to stab a bunch of monsters to death in a pretty open world, it's a good time.

Want to shoot and bludgeon countless hordes of demons to death? Doom: The Dark Ages is currently AU$49 at JB Hi-Fi, which is a pretty good price considering it cost AU$109.95 at launch back in June.

Doom: The Dark Ages differs quite a bit from its predecessor Doom Eternal, but then, the modern trilogy has proven quite experimental as far as hellish FPS games go. I think that's entirely to its credit, and modern id Software are absolute masters at action gamefeel, but your mileage of course may vary.

From our review:

"While Doom: The Dark Ages is a solid game, the ways it differs from previous titles are largely to its detriment. Most of what's praiseworthy about the Slayer's 2025 adventures are what's translated from older entries, while new features like the melee focus and mech sequences feel like fumbled missteps the series would be well-advised to forget going forward."

For AU$109, I reckon you'd be justified in steering clear if some of the weirder aspects of The Dark Ages doesn't appeal (like that melee). But at AU$49? I reckon play this thing.

A great price on this high octane first-person shooter, which looks like a Scandinavian black metal album cover brought to live. Its focus on melee won't be for everyone, but if you want a blistering action game by one of the industry greats, AU$49 is an extremely reasonable price to pay for that.
