Winner of the Camera d’Or at this year’s Cannes, this tense and explicit Mexican drama– the debut feature of Aussie director Michael Rowe – centres on Laura (Monica del Carmen), a freelance journo living in a Mexico City apartment.

Her only real contacts are loveless one-night stands, until she meets Arturo (Gustavo Sánchez Parra) and gets drawn into evermore extreme S&M games.

Claustrophobically confined, for the most part, to Laura’s apartment, this is a harrowing study of loneliness that showcases an intensely brave and believable performance from newcomer del Carmen.
