But never has that been tested so fiercely, as dress-up mobile game Time Princess has revealed a fashionable crossover with Universal Pictures' Wicked. In case you've missed the run-up to its November 22 premiere, Wicked sees Ariana Grande play Glinda – that's the Good Witch of the North for you Oz-heads – while Cynthia Erivo plays soon-to-be Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba Thropp.
We won't spoil anything for anyone waiting to watch the long-awaited film adaptation (though our glowing five-star Wicked review has a lot to say), but there are two key takeaways you need to know. First: both Galinda and Elphaba strut some supremely chic, albeit very different, outfits at Shiz University. Second: thanks to Time Princess, you can snag some of that witchy style – and maybe even some of that flourishing campus friendship – for yourself. Need more proof? For anyone looking to bring some warmth and sparkle to the festive season, Glinda brings the perfect look with Dreamy Summer Night. Shiz University's most popular student has an outfit that matches her radiant personality: a shimmering, glamorous pink dress that can light up any room. It's a beautiful statement ensemble, and shows that you're capable of overcoming even the toughest of tests with grace (and a little help from your friends).
Of course, any witch worth their magic needs a good wand. Glinda's own spell-slinger, made of elegant silver, looks like she's reached for the stars and caught one. Better yet, it matches her tiara – but would you expect anything less than perfect coordination from the Good Witch of the North?
If pink isn't your favorite color, don't fret. Elphaba's darker Eternal Forest Whispers outfit may be the polar opposite of Glinda's, but that's because she's embraced being herself at Shiz University. Traditionally witchy with a twist, it's hard to look away from Elphaba's gown once you realize how detailed it is. Subtle, glimmering grooves and shimmering swirls make it too easy to sit and watch your character model the dress – I know I watched the preview (which is below) far too many times, trying to make out every bewitching pattern in sight.
Besides reinventing sorceress' style, Elphaba's outfit is perfectly practical for a day of lectures at Shiz University. The sleek black leather bag sits nicely to the side, but its clasped strap is the real winner – its gold buckle is a neat eye-catcher, and tells onlookers that there's a heart of gold beneath all of this black. This is the fit you'll want for a more "classic" witch look, as it's completed with a crooked black hat, fastened cloak, and wizened broomstick. Amid the flashiness of Shiz University it's a rebellious look that screams independence, but as it does in Wicked, shows that Elphaba is all-business when it comes to using her magic to fight injustice at every turn.
Looking the part is one thing, but Time Princess' crossover with Wicked is all about feeling like a part of Shiz University. Whether you're team Dreamy Summer Night or Eternal Forest Whispers, there's a place for everyone here – and its arrival in Time Princess proves it.
The Story Kingdom will take players through the University of Oz to see the magical friendship between Elphaba and Glinda first-hand. While the pair initially seem at-odds in The Wizard of Oz, there's a lot more than meets the eye for these witches – and just as players can express their own personalities through fashion in Time Princess, both Elphaba and Glinda discover they have so much in common during their shared magical studies.
Besides including limited-time missions and challenges, the Wicked collaboration will also let players dive into all-new facets of life on campus, with friendship stories exploring the bonds between each character. The world outside of Oz can be bleak at times, so this window into another world feels like a lovely opportunity to celebrate the friendships and growth that thrive at Shiz University.
