Crimson Desert DLC officially in the works, but Pearl Abyss also has its sights on story improvements, new combat content, and more arriving in the next 4 months
The devs want the DLC to be "a meaningful addition to your journey"
Crimson Desert DLC has been officially confirmed as Pearl Abyss also outlines a number of key areas it's working on for the base game, including story improvements.
In a dev update shared today, Pearl Abyss thanks fans for their feedback on its open-world behemoth up to now, saying that "Crimson Desert has come this far thanks to the support and feedback you've shared with us since launch." But while Pywel is already massive, the experience is clearly going to get even bigger.
"We are also hard at work on an upcoming DLC for Crimson Desert, and while we cannot share the details just yet, we are preparing it as a meaningful addition to your journey," Pearl Abyss teases. "We will share more details in the future, so stay tuned."
It's definitely exciting news, but admittedly not the most surprising. Only last month, Pearl Abyss stated that "we are currently exploring various ways to broaden the game to the next level, including DLC," but clearly, since then, work has begun in earnest.
No timeframe has been given for when we can expect the DLC to launch, but we can at least look forward to the upcoming improvements to the base game that Pearl Abyss plans to roll out between June and September this year. Perhaps the most surprising thing listed – but definitely the one I'm most interested in – is the plan to improve Crimson Desert's lackluster story.
"We have been carefully reviewing the story-related feedback you have shared with us," Pearl Abyss says. "To further strengthen the narrative flow of Kliff's journey and to make it more engaging, we are working to refine and improve the coherence of key scenes. We hope these improvements will offer something new even for those who have already experienced Pywel."
The extent of these improvements isn't clear, but considering that even Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young previously admitted that the game's narrative wasn't the best it could have been, it'll be good to give it that boost it needs.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
Elsewhere, Pearl Abyss is planning alterations to re-blockade – specifically, "a new phase is being developed to make the flow before and after a blockade more natural, along with ways to defend certain strongholds from the threat of invasion." We can expect improved rewards, too. What's more, the devs are "working on a cross-save feature" that'll let you play across multiple platforms with a linked account.
Otherwise, the devs very vaguely tease "new combat-focused content" that'll allow players to "prove their true strength as a Greymane," as well as improvements to "Damiane and Oongka's overall gameplay experience." Pearl Abyss explains: "Various adjustments will be made so that all three playable characters can get a share of the spotlight." Step aside, Kliff.
Finally, it also sounds like we can expect some general quality-of-life improvements, as Pearl Abyss says: "We will continue making improvements to non-combat content, such as trading and farming, to address areas that players have found inconvenient."
We'll just have to watch this space and see when these changes arrive – the last time Pearl Abyss outlined three months' worth of updates, it ended up releasing everything within just weeks. We obviously shouldn't expect that to be the norm, but to say the devs have been hard at work making Crimson Desert the best it can be would be an understatement.
