Final Fantasy wizard predicted the title of the third entry, Revelation, 4 years ago, after correctly predicting the first two entries
The gift of prophecy, but at what cost?
Square Enix just announced Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during Summer Game Fest. The third entry in the remake trilogy, it will close out the retelling of the 1997 original that begin with 2020's Remake. Fans have spent years theorizing on what the last entry would be titled, but it seems one fan did it best four years ago.
A post from 2022 in the FFVIIRemake subreddit from user chlysm begins with the assured title, "I'm Calling it. 'Final Fantasy VII: Revelations' will be The Third and Final Entry for the Remake Trilogy." The user claims they originally predicted the trilogy would be Remake, Rebirth, and Reunion. That's two for three (though the account is now banned and we can't check their past predictions prior to 2022) with Reunion the only mistake. However, as the user notes, Reunion was used as the title for Square Enix's remake of Crisis Core. Hence their follow-up post with the prediction of Revelations from 2022.
Other potential predictions from the fanbase included Revival and Return, the latter seeming especially fitting with the remake trilogy's themes. Shows what we know, as chlysm beat us all with their prediction. The comment section of the original post has now been flooded with people finding it after the official announcement today. Though for me the comment that takes the cake reads simply, "Bro cooked so hard Square Enix had to get him banned."
You'll be able to play Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in spring 2027 on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Wherever they are, I hope chlysm gets to enjoy it.
