Metroid and Ghostrunner combine in the electrifying new trailer for parkour FPS Metal Eden

A new trailer for cyberpunk parkour FPS Metal Eden just dropped during the Future Game Show at gamescom, and if you weren't already sold between the immaculate 'Doom meets Ghostrunner' vibes, the healthy dose of Metroid provided in the new footage should help.

As Aska, an advanced battle android known as a Hyper Core, you've been sent to the orbital city of Moebius, tasked with protecting its citizens as their home transforms into a deadly trap. The new footage trailer has plenty of excellent parkour FPS gameplay, with Aska leaping around futuristic, neon-drenched arenas as they dodge around foes. It's speedy and dangerous, and immediately reminiscent of the excellent Ghostrunner games, albeit with a little bit of Doom-style FPS goodness thrown in instead of a katana.

But later in the trailer, Aska shows that they've got a few extra tricks up their mechanical sleeve, transforming into their 'Ball Form' to take on bigger groups of foes in some more freeform environments, changing up the gameplay substantially.

Additionally, the trailer introduces the mysterious 'Operator', whose definitively less-than-dulcet tones reveal a little bit more about Aska and the world she inhabits. There's a tantalizing tease about something called 'a Phantom Core', suggesting there might be a little bit more to our cybernetic heroine than meets the eye.

Metal Eden is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on September 2, meaning you've got very little time before you can investigate Aska, Moebius, and the Operator for yourself.
