Death Stranding 2's PC launch has beaten the concurrent player record of the original game, and is one of the highest for a PlayStation-published game on Steam.
Word emerged earlier this month that Sony is reportedly pulling back from releasing single-player PlayStation games on PC, with the likes of Ghost of Yotei and Saros likely not coming to the platform. However, that hasn't stopped PlayStation's latest single-player PC release from being a hit.
Looking over at SteamDB, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach hit a concurrent player count of 55,444 players on Steam shortly after it debuted on the platform yesterday. The original Death Stranding hit a high of 32,515 when it launched on the platform back in July 2020, while the Director's Cut edition of the original hit a peak of 22,080 back in June of last year – when Death Stranding 2 launched on PS5. There's a chance this isn't even the peak for Death Stranding 2 yet, as most games tend to hit their highest on the Saturday or Sunday of their opening weekend.
As far as PlayStation games on PC go, the high of 55,444 places Death Stranding 2 as the sixth highest-played game on Steam, behind Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man Remastered, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, and Helldivers 2. Death Stranding 2 only needs just under 22,000 more players to beat Tsushima and land the second-place spot, but I think it's very unlikely for it to beat Helldivers 2, which peaked at 458,709 at release.
