Hollow Knight: Silksong patch 5 is here, and while that means all kinds of nifty fixes, there's arguably an even more important detail. Team Cherry confirms this will be the last major update before the Sea of Sorrow expansion launches.
"Patch 5 is intended as the last significant update before Silksong’s upcoming major expansion: Sea of Sorrow," the devs explain in their announcement. Sea of Sorrow is set to launch sometime in 2026, but Team Cherry hasn't provided any more specific release information than that. Given how the wait for Silksong went, I expect the devs will want to remain as vague as possible before dropping the free expansion.
As for patch 5 itself, many of the changes are already well-known to the community, since they debuted in a beta update last month. The clear highlight even then was a "game-changing" tweak to Silk Soar, which is now in the game for all players to enjoy.
As Team Cherry puts it, the patch "contains standard bug fixes and refinements, and 2 major language updates worth mentioning." There's now a Traditional Chinese translation, and a major upgrade to the German version.
"Silksong’s German script has received significant updates from talented translator Tobias Gut, who was extensively involved in the original game and its expansions," Team Cherry explains. "Partially, this task has been about clarifying narrative elements to better align with the English intent, but also working to synchronise the style and tone with the original game (Hollow Knight)."
If you're here reading this English-language article, an improved German translation might not be valuable to you, but getting a game's localization right for a wide array of languages is always a fascinating challenge. Or hey, maybe you can start a new Silksong playthrough to pick up a little German while you wait for Sea of Sorrow to finally be released.
