Get ready to blast off in Wild Blue, a reimagining of classic on-rail adventures from the '90s
The Future Games Show has an exclusive first look at gameplay and story elements from the upcoming action shooter
If you're looking to take a nostalgic journey to a classic genre of '90s gaming, then you should definitely check out Wild Blue. During the Future Games Show at gamescom, we got to exclusively see parts of the gameplay and story, as until now all that had been revealed was the name of the game and a logo.
Wild Blue follows the adventures of Bowie Stray and the Blue Bombers, as they battle against the flying forces of the evil Baron to restore peace and save the world. The trailer introduces us to the rest of this quirky gang – Roe, Thorne, and Chuck – before they blast off on their next mission, and the gorgeous hand-crafted anime-style visuals draw us into this universe with them.
The main gameplay loop involves exploring a variety of settings in your ship, from sprawling oceans to narrow caves, while fighting off waves of enemies. The intuitive controls are easy to pick up, whether you're a newcomer to the genre or an experienced pilot, so you'll soon be banking, barrel-rolling, and blasting your way through flights like a pro.
Each level has branching paths and secret missions to discover, encouraging replayability as you strive to become an ace pilot through a simple to understand yet challenging scoring system. There's plenty still to be revealed, from heart-pumping boss battles to dramatic dogfights with a mysterious rival squadron, and we can't wait to learn more about Bowie's adventures.
Wild Blue is coming soon to PC via Steam, and while it doesn't have an official release date just yet you can wishlist it now on Steam and join developer Chuhai Labs' official Discord to hear all of the latest news first.
