The first trailer for new sci-fi series The Boroughs has arrived... and it feels a lot like Stranger Things for an older audience (and I mean that in the best way).
In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, Sam (Alfred Molina) gets dropped off at a luxurious retirement community by his daughter Claire (Jena Malone). Everything seems beautiful, fun, and idyllic... until he and a few of the other folks, including Wally (Denis O'Hare), Judy (Alfre Woodard), Renee (Geena Davis), and Art (Clarke Peters), discover what appears to be some alien activities hidden deep within The Boroughs. Armed with a knife, a gun, and a bat... they team up to figure out what the heck is going on.
Per the official tagline: "In a seemingly picturesque retirement community, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time." Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who created Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance TV series, serve as executive producers and showrunners, with The Duffer Brothers producing under their Upside Down Pictures banner. The cast also includes Bill Pullman, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Alice Kremelberg, and Dee Wallace.
Article continues belowThe Duffer Brothers previously stated that the series was inspired by the movie Cocoon, the 1985 sci-fi pic from director Ron Howard that sees a group of seniors uncover an alien presence swimming in the pools of their retirement community.
The Boroughs is set to hit Netflix on May 21. For more, check out our list of the best Netflix shows to add to your streaming queue right now, or check out our guide to all the upcoming TV shows you need to know about.
