Ryan Reynolds says Deadpool "works best on scarcity and surprise," so he's not planning on playing the Marvel character again any time soon

Deadpool and Wolverine made over a billion dollars in 2024 and proved that people always want to see the Merc with the Mouth – but Ryan Reynolds is more restrained about the character's future.

"I've talked to Marvel off and on, always," Reynolds told Collider. "We have a really great relationship, you know? It's always a conversation. I'm always just looking to be additive and help on anything, even if it's not a movie I'm in. And I'm always writing. I mean, it's how I kind of get it out of my system. I love writing. That character and that world is one in which anything is possible, and that in and of itself allows for so much freedom and storytelling."

He added: "I have a few things written that I love. I don't know. We'll figure out when the time is right. I'm not in any huge rush right now to do anything."

He then explained he thinks "Deadpool works best on both scarcity and surprise, so jumping right back into it full on right now is probably something I’m not going to do."

Earlier in April, Reynolds gave another update. "I have some stuff kind of written," he shared, though it sounds like he won't be taking center stage. "I think he's a supporting character. He's a guy that is great in a group," he added.

We'll just have to wait and see to find out when we'll see Deadpool again. Personally, my bet is he pops up in Avengers: Doomsday, though nothing is confirmed.
