The first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer arrived in quite the unconventional way, and it really paid off given the fact that the clip has amassed around 1 billion views across all official channels across all platforms.
Rather than just drop the trailer and call it a day, Marvel really gave the Avengers: Doomsday casting livestream a run for its money by deciding to launch in bite-sized clips over a span of 24 hours. Fans from all over the world were tasked with posting two seconds of the trailer on their personal Instagram accounts.
GTA 6 previously held the record for most-viewed non-music video in the first 24 hours of release with around 465 million views. Spidey hit 718 million in 24 hours, also beating out Deadpool and Wolverine's 365 million in 24 hours (H/T Variety). TLDR; the people are excited. I am, too.
Per an official Marvel press release: "Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31. In the meantime, get up to speed on the rest of Marvel Phase 6 with our guide to the other upcoming Marvel movies and shows.
