Supergirl director Craig Gillespie says they're going comic-accurate for the upcoming DC film, with Kara and Rutheye going on a multi-planet journey with multiple languages.

"There are five languages in this film, and Kryptonian is one of them, all original languages," Gillespie told Entertainment Weekly. " So they had to learn a language. There's some major scenes, like minutes and minutes of dialogue that they've got to work with. You really need actors of that caliber."

Gillespie went on to explain that there are "about nine distinct worlds, each with its own language," adding that "there is quite a lot of traveling involved."

If we're getting really comic book-accurate, then these nine planets include Coronn, Urrralan, Tyrrrcoomn, Ecvick, Parnat, and Nycilan. Supergirl follows the Woman of Tomorrow comics, which were released in 2021, and follow Kara Zor-El as she and a young girl named Ruthye embark on an intergalactic quest for revenge after Rutheye's father is killed by Krem of the Yellow Hills. Milly Alcock plays Kara, with Eve Ridley as Rutheye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem.

Gillespie (who helmed the cult favorite film Lars and the Real Girl) directs from a screenplay penned by Ana Nogueira (who quite literally originated the role of Eliza Hamilton in the musical Hamilton). Supergirl will take place between Superman and its sequel, Man of Tomorrow.

Supergirl hits theaters on June 26. For more, here are the movie release dates to look forward to in 2026, plus all the DCU Chapter One plans that are in the works.
